4th generation Honda Accord
The fourth generation Honda Accord was manufactured between 1990 and 1993.
The redesigned 4th generation Honda Accord (1990 Honda Accord) was a revelation as it moved the Accord from compact to mid-size car status. The 1990 model was a more conservative Accord equipped with 2.2L, 125 hp, 4-cylinder engine. Three variations of Accord were released into the market this year, which include DX, LX and EX. This was the first model that had 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 4-speed automatic transmission. Some of the features present in this model include automatic seatbelts, airbags, flip-up lamps, upgraded upholstery and a high power radio/cassette.
During 1991, Honda Accord Wagon and a premium Honda Accord SE (special edition) sedan. While the Honda Accord Wagon was designed with a specific rear-end styling, Accord SE model was fitted with 140hp engine, automatic transmission, standard leather upholstery, four-wheel disc brakes and antilock control.
The 1992 model of Honda Accord was a slightly modified version. The Honda Accord lineup in this year included EX sedan, coupe and wagon. However, SE sedan was dropped. All the 1992 models included driver’s side airbag and anti-lock brakes. The 1992 version received a minor facelift with the inclusion of new headlights, parking lights, taillights, a slightly sleek body and updated wheel designs. EX sedan models were particularly fitted with radio anti-theft devices to prevent car stereo theft. Honda became the first non-U.S brand to launch a separate luxury class cars. Launched in this year was 1992 Acura Vigor, which was a stretched version of Honda Accord.
The year 1993 was the tenth year when Honda Accord started its production in the U.S. To commemorate this occasion, Honda launched the 10th anniversary edition of Honda Accord in 1993. Other versions in the lineup were SE sedan and SE coupe. Features included in the 1993 version were anti-lock brakes, unique alloy wheels, leather upholstery, a premier Honda/Bose audio system and passenger airbags.
